Need Help With Cars Comparing To Hyundai Tiburon?

Im looking for a car to get that is much like the Hyundai Tiburon, MItsubishi Eclipse, etc. a 4 seater that has a nice body like the eclipse and tiburon. and in an '02 - '05 model thats usually under 20,000.

NOTE:Im not actually looking for a car that someones selling just cars to compare with them.Need Help With Cars Comparing To Hyundai Tiburon?
Honda Civic Si, Acura RSX, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Nissan Sentra SE-R, and Toyota Celica.Need Help With Cars Comparing To Hyundai Tiburon?
Toyota Celica would probably be closest.

Why are American cars so awful to drive compared to euro cars?

road holding, handling reliability, is so abysmal, compared to euro cars. Why are American cars so awful to drive compared to euro cars?
You think "euro cars" are reliable? Are you serious? I would take a Ford over a VW/Audi any day of the week.

If you don't believe me do some research online, VW's suck, and ever other euro car is grossly overpriced.
Different driving conditions require different cars.

How many places in the UK or Europe can you drive 3000 miles at 60-70 miles per hour without ever slowing down for a stop sign or driving on city streets? Our highways are big, wide and made for big comfortable cars that can go fast for long distances. That's the kind of driving most American cars were designed for.

We don't have the crappy little narrow roadways and tiny city streets here like they do in the UK and we don't need that kind of car.

I have owned German, Swedish, British and Japanese cars. I'll keep my big, comfortable and fast Cadillac. Thank you very much. Why are American cars so awful to drive compared to euro cars?
Different road conditions, different driving priorities. One persons awful is another persons excellent.

The U.S. for example is full of long straight super highways. You don't need or want a sleek little sports car for that.

The massive growth of Britain's sports car industry post-war was due almost entirely to the presenct of hundreds of disused military airfields scattered all over the country that made for great racetracks. Go ahead and look at some satelite images of southern England in particular on Google. You can't go more than a mile or two without seeing the remains of a WW2 airfield in many areas even today.

The U.S. didn't have that.

In continental Europe the narrow streets of ancient cities favored small cars which tend to handle better than large cars. Again, America doesn't have that.

But to be fair, Europe has no shortage of crappy handling cars.
It is all a matter of taste, some people think snails are a treat! But for most Americans snails are something to learn to eat only when lost in the woods and sleeping in hollow stumps of trees.

I for one don't like German or Italian car handling, nor the ride. I was not too crazy about the British counter parts either.

As for reliability, find a different continent to compare US cars to if that is the issue. About the only country that can build cars to stand up to the US driver are Australian car makers. US car drivers take those pansy mobiles from Europe and grind them down to nothing in less the 60000 miles.

Just take a look at how the cost for repairs escalates on the cars you praise, but at 60000 miles a US made car is just entering its prime.

Keep the Euro junk! Why are American cars so awful to drive compared to euro cars?
You're comparing apples to oranges..

Are you saying an Isetta bubble car outperforms a 2011 Dodge Charger? Or, an Aston Martin DB5 outperforms a Nash Rambler?Of Course, They do.....

Both Euro and US have made Excellent cars, and, c***. If you Pay top dollar, you'll get the best. Wanna pay 1.25 million for a Bentley just for that few tenth-seconds of quarter mile and Slightly better handling? If you do, you wouldn't be on this forum.

Besides, my Citation handles Great; it got kudos for That, at least. Cheap bodies, though.
Ha ha ha ha......

Strap you butt into a new Vette and enjoy the upgrade!

Can't compare a sedan to a sports car.

Would you like a show about cars?

My friend says he is going to start a show mainly about cars, he is going to be comparing cars and doing car stunts and what not. He wants to race a 250cc Shifter Kart, and a lotus and a ducati and see wich of 3 cars are best against police carsWould you like a show about cars?
There are tons of shows about cars out there. Bull Run, Two Guy's Garage, Truck You, Chop Cut Rebuild, Pimp My Ride, Pinks All Out, Supercars Exposed, there's a show for everyone so adding any more would be borderline pointless. If people want to do comparisons they usually go to Edmunds.com

And I'm guessing your friend is 12Would you like a show about cars?
Sorry, but we already have Top Gear. Interestingly you have to be 16 to race in SCCA Spec Miata and 18 for NASA Spec Miata and 15 years old for Formula BMW also it should be pointed out that there is no Formula BMW in the U.S.anymore. So either this friend is a liar or you made him up.

Please compare these cars. Which is best?

Chevy Cruze, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid. im looking for fuel efficiency, safety, performance, and reliability. Please compare these cars. Which is best?
Probably the Chevy Cruze. It is a new design that is getting good reviews but it's reliability is still unknown. Hybrids are not economical. Because of their high cost the payback period is 8-10 years and that's only if you use them primarily for city driving. On the highway hybrids usually get the same or worse mileage than their conventional counterparts because on the highway they run on gasoline. Please compare these cars. Which is best?
Chevy Cruze, hands down. Hybrids aren't all they are cracked out to be. The Chevy Cruze is a fast, ballsy and reliable vehcile, excellent warranty and lots of features for the money. Best in class safety and performance, and once you drive one, you'll understand what I'm talking about. They are getting excellent reviews right now as well. (Check out edmunds.com)Please compare these cars. Which is best?
Honda Civic Hybrid: Best looking, most efficient, environmentally it also has a very high performance rate and is quite reliable.
The Fusion would be the safest. The Civic would be the most fuel efficient. The Cruze would be the forgettable one.

I'd get a Subaru instead.

  • What are some disadvantages and advantages of hybrid cars compared to gas powered cars?

The hybrid car is stop gap solution to make rich North Americans think they are improving the environment.

Hybrid cars are expensive to build and expensive to buy, not particularly economical because they spend much of their time running on their underpowered petrol engine, its now possible to buy cheaper petrol or diesel cars that are more economical and cleaner.

In my opinion the car manufacturers are starting to back pedal away from Toyota type of hybrid cars and the only car maker on the right track is General Motors with a hybrid car where the engine is used to drive a generator which charges batteries which in turn drive the wheels and there is no direct link between the engine and the wheels. What are some disadvantages and advantages of hybrid cars compared to gas powered cars?
hybrids combine the best of both. fuel economy plus efficency. speed, cheaper on fuel, or free if solar or water. transport, yet safe for the environment. disaDvantages, expensive 2 buy, some dont look as nice, bad weather may affect u.What are some disadvantages and advantages of hybrid cars compared to gas powered cars?
Hybrids are for the idiots that believe the government are telling the truth when it comes to global warming/carbon footprint. They are there just to make a statement and look good to their so called green friends.

As in 'gas' do you mean LPG or petrol?

Anyone else that enjoys driving buys a decent petrol or diesel car. What are some disadvantages and advantages of hybrid cars compared to gas powered cars?
No advantage, more expensive, higher maintenance costs. uses batteries when driving in town slowly, there petrol engines are not very economical.. Not good for environment as manufacture and disposal of batteries is not a green process.

Is braking distance in ABS equipped cars is more as compared to cars without ABS?

Is braking distance in ABS equipped cars is more as compared to cars without ABS, considering that cars are same and all the four wheels have disc brakes? Is braking distance in ABS equipped cars is more as compared to cars without ABS?
abs helps you stop faster and keep the wheels from locking up
ABS gives you the "safest, controlled stop". It does not promise to give you the fastest stop. By controlling the slip at each wheel independently (for 4 wheel ABS systems), you will maintain the ability to steer and control the vehicle. - Slip Control Engineer

Is braking distance in ABS equipped cars is more as compared to cars without ABS?
An ABS unit prevents the locking of wheels and thus the skidding of the vehicle. When the brake pedal is pressed hard at high speeds, the wheels get locked. Since infinite retardation is not possible as per the laws of physics, the vehicle keeps on moving i.e. skids out of control. An ABS unit thus prevents skidding by reducing the brake force and keeping it at an optimum level. The braking distances are more or less the same on dry surfaces but ABS is much more effective on slippery surfaces where the wheels tend to lock early.
I had a friend that operated a high performance driving school. He told me that a good professional driver can actually stop a car in less distance with standard brakes. The operative words are "good professional". He went on to say ABS made every driver a reasonably good professional driver when you are considering braking ability.

My main concern with ABS is what is going to happen when these cars start aging and the system fails. It does fail to a standard brake mode, I'll give you that much. The problem I see is after a number of years folks will forget how to modulate their brakes manually. I see a lot of skids and collisions resulting. For those of you who doubt these failures will occur, I offer my vehicles as proof. The family has three vehicles equipped with ABS, two of the systems are working fine. The one on the 1/2 ton Dodge pickup has failed...

I guess I am old fashioned but I still prefer manual brakes (disk on all four corners are great). I don't even like power assisted brakes. Is braking distance in ABS equipped cars is more as compared to cars without ABS?
abs has a shorter stopping distace and much straigher and keeps wheeels from locking up to give more control over the car
several answers partially correct - stopping distance is not the end all statistic. the fact is that anti-lock brakes not only prevent skids and modulate the brake pedal at a higher frequency but if you have to stop and don;t have enough distance YOU CAN STILL STEER THE CAR and avoid the collision by steering the car away from the other vehicle or object while losing speed
In a straight-line situation on a dry road, braking distances with or without ABS are similar. ABS might be a few feet shorter.

Where ABS really shines is on wet, icy or split conditions as it allows you to maximize braking effort for the conditions and maintain directional (steering) control.

    I won't own a vehicle without ABS.
ABS only means the brakes will not lock up, causing the tires to skid, so theoretically ABS brakes let you stop sooner, in less distance. In actuality, it makes no difference, all things being equal
ABS(anti-blocking system) helps you stop faster, usually. If things aren't properly calibrated, though, you'll see better performance from a standard non-ABS system. Slow down a little, and you won't use your brakes so much...
A previous answer hit the nail on the head. I am a brake engineer and can verify that ABS will not make a significant difference in stopping distance on dry pavement. Unless your tires are very worn, in which case you will reach wheel lock prematurely and the ABS will fire, allowing you to steer during the braking maneuver.

On wet or icy conditions, ABS will significantly help your stopping distance and ability to steer during the maneuver. If your wheels were to "lock" during braking, you would slide uncontrollably and have possibly catastrophic problems.

How can you people stand to drive new cars?

I have a 2010 model year car and its cramped, ugly, badly made, and soulless. I don't know how dealers can sell cars anymore. Their plastic uninspired interiors and awkward boxy appearances are nothing compared to cars of old. I miss my 1964 Cadillac. I enjoy my 59 Cadillac though. How can you people stand to drive new cars?
Regardless of what factless 'knowledge' you are ranting about, cars today are made better than they have ever been made in the history of the automobile.

Today's vehicles are the 10 times safer and 20 times more reliable than vehicles made 50 years ago.

Sure, there is a tradeoff because they are more complex, but saying they are soulless, ugly, etc. is merely your personal rant.

If you thought your car was cramped, ugly, badly made and soulless and you STILL bought it, then who, really, is the fool?
quit going to GM and ford.

for the same money, you can get a much nicer, more efficient japanese import. at first i was all american made, blah blah, but when i got my first honda, idk why anyone would buy an ugly american car these days. sorry.

btw, i'm a honda guy so don't bring up that toyota crap cuz i'm not gonna sit here and defend that lame company. How can you people stand to drive new cars?
You don't say what your 2010 car is but for the right price you can get a brand new car that's roomy, beautiful, solid and soulful. Really old cars smell funny. But seriously, you know it depends on the model--not the year.
What is your new car? If you pay good money you can get a nice car but over all i agree. My 1994 F150 was so reliable and comfortable, and my current 1995 Integra is a little smaller but super reliable too. I doubt i'll ever own a new car. Go craigslist!!How can you people stand to drive new cars?
THROW SOME D"S ON THAT *****

Would comparing new cars vs old cars to paper towels Vs towels be a good comparison?

Or even plastic forks/spoons/knives vs silverware?

After new cars are designed merely as disposable pieces of plastic, similar to a plastic fork while older cars, made of steel and chrome, will easily outlive their owners with care and will still remain stylish and "in" while new car styles stay the same for about 6-10 years and gets old the second the new body style comes out. It looks like innovation and permanency are no longer factors in car production.Would comparing new cars vs old cars to paper towels Vs towels be a good comparison?
    No not at all.

first of all ever since the 1940s, when car companys realized that they wern't selling cars as much as they used to. They realized that if everyone has a car already and it lasts them for 20 years + why would you get a new one. So several changes were made. The paint was re-formulated to begin to crack alowing the car to rust after only 5 years. And most importantly the design of eack model was from that point on radicaly changed each year so people would be forced to stay current.

They have been doing that for 70 years. Look at the 1949 through 1959 studebaker line.

As to style the style, yes the design of cars has become really boring lately, and as a car designer i prefer 1945 through 1978 cars to any modern models athesticly. But as a result modern cars are more aerodynamic and safer. The average mpg for all road cars and trucks in 1950 was only 5, now its 25.

chrome fades pits and fades to green and steel rusts away after a few years, while plastic even of the poorest quality found in plastic bottles can survive for buried in the ground for 700'000 years. The kind found in cars lasts for over a million years.

Dont blame plastic blame the fact that the cars bumper is realy mostly foam and air, the plastic is only 1/16 of an inch thick. At that thickness even if made of steel it would still fail if you taped a Sign post at 10 miles per hour. In 1950 through 1985 the average american made engine would fail after 100,000 miles. European non luxury engines failed at 60,000 miles. Today about 70% of all cars made are projected to live beyond 200,000 mile.s

So in effect even then cars were designed as disposable even then. And are much more durable now.

Are electric car parts cheaper than car parts for gasoline powered cars?

I'm doing a school report and I'm comparing electric cars to gasoline powered cars to see if car dealers should sell electric cars. Are electric car parts cheaper than car parts for gasoline powered cars?
some of the electric car parts are more expensive but most of them lasts longer than gas powered cars
Yes, out of 800 million vehicles on the planet, the world's cheapest vehicle to operate IS AN ELECTRIC PICKUP TRUCK.

However, the electric car INDUSTRY is dead.

The Electric Vehicle (taken as a "cottage" industry) can possibly be saved if the high cost of replacement batteries can be reduced. At the present time, the replacement batteries cost [2X-10X] that of paying for gasoline on a per-mile basis. Reference: http://ev-diary-experiment.blogspot.com/

In the January 2008 issue of Wired magazine, there is a cost-analysis of electric versus gasoline vehicles which purports that electricity cost is under $300 a year for electric, and $1,800 a year for gasoline. However, the Wired magazine doesn't take into consideration the depreciation of the electric car battery. For a Lithium-Ion electric car, the cost of a battery pack is approximately $30,000 and a careless procedure or electronic or battery charger's software failure could wipe that out; as it has with several electric vehicle owners.

However, the Revived Battery electric pickup truck, which has a running cost of 30 cents a day, is probably the world's cheapest vehicle to operate. (Reference: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/30-cent-a-day-cost-to-operate-wld1st-electric-pickup-vehicle/372488112

Reference: Google search this - WORLD'S CHEAPEST VEHICLE TO OPERATEAre electric car parts cheaper than car parts for gasoline powered cars?
i dont know much about cars but i think that electric cars parts are more expensive because they are more rare
I have an electric car, and in general common parts (brakes, lights, tires and such) are the same price as a 'regular' car. However, electric cars are much easier to maintain - no oil to change, no gas or oil filters, no exhaust system to smog check every year, no radiator to keep full of antifreeze. Since those parts don't exist on an electric car, you can't spend money on them.

But as with everything, there are trade-offs. Many electric cars are conversions - the gasoline engine and parts to make it work are removed, and an electric motor, batteries, and controller is installed (along with other parts such as wiring). The motor and controller are generally maintenance free, but lead acid batteries (most common in electric car conversions) need to be checked every month or so, and filled with distilled water (about $2.00 a gallon - I hardly use a gallon a year).

Eventually the batteries will wear out, and will have to be replaced in four or five years (depending on how they are used). If they are abused, they may only last a year or two. If they are babied they may last more than five years. The batteries are recycled by the battery dealer.

The cost will depend on how many batteries are in the vehicle, but a rough estimate is about $90 for each six-volt battery, or about $1440 for a 96 volt car. Divided by five years, the batteries cost about $288 a year, or about the same as having the annual smog check done and getting the oil changed three or four times a year.

My electric car uses about 1 kilowatt hour of electricity to go three miles. Our city has a special rate for charging electric cars, and it costs six cents per kilowatt hour, or two cents a mile. In contrast, my 'gas' car (a Prius) gets 48 MPG, and with gasoline at $3.40 a gallon, the per mile cost is about seven cents.

Good luck with the report! Are electric car parts cheaper than car parts for gasoline powered cars?
there are way fewer parts for electric than for gas cars, but some of them are costly,

when you compare total value, the electric is less for everything but the batteries.

Compare mid-sized cars cherolet Aveo 1.4LS, Hyundai Verna Xi petrol, Aveo 1.6?

Please give me best suggestions out of experience..

I have shortlisted aveo 1.4LS, Verna xi , and fiesta 1.4Exi,

    Please give me best option...

For me Mileage + Looks + performace + reliability of car is much important...

Waiting for genuine suggestionsCompare mid-sized cars cherolet Aveo 1.4LS, Hyundai Verna Xi petrol, Aveo 1.6?
Looks are subjective but to me Aveo looks the best of the three. As far as fuel economy goes there is hardly anything to choose from, the fiesta 1.4 (petrol) slightly better. In the performance department the verna though being a 1.6 l engine is only marginally better than the fiesta and the aveo. I would choose the fiesta again. Hyundai is known to be reasonably reliable for the first 3-4 years, but Chevy cheapest to maintain.

    Other aspects.

space and comfort : fiesta feels a little cramped compare to others in the segment. verna the best and aveo not far behind.

Ride Quality: Fiesta has the best ride. soaks up the bumps and potholes pretty well.

Handling: This is ford's territory, the others stay away. Aveo is okay but for a little body roll... verna forget it.

Gearbox: Again the ford's zone. Verna is a tad rubbery..aveo odd spacing.

Resale: Aveo the worst resale vaules, ford and hyundai not far behind.

    Verdict:

If u drive yourself go for the Fiesta 1.4

If u r being driven around pick the verna

If u good value for money, bargain for big discounts and buy the aveo.
welp, my honest and fast opinion, i would ignore everything but the Hyundai because they are good cars, highly rated in general across the board. i'm an imports person tho, all the way, but with plenty of experience to back it up!Compare mid-sized cars cherolet Aveo 1.4LS, Hyundai Verna Xi petrol, Aveo 1.6?
Ford Fiesta is the best in terms of all the aspects you have stated. You will never regret choosing it over the others.
    dude!!

why dont u go for ford fiesta if for miealage and for performance power, go for maruti"s SX-4!

dont go fo that AVEO/ verna!

    i have fiesta 1.4EXi

its mind blowing!Compare mid-sized cars cherolet Aveo 1.4LS, Hyundai Verna Xi petrol, Aveo 1.6?
Aveo 1.4 will give you more mileage than the 1.6 engine. The chevrolets have traditionally had a longer product lifecycle than the Hyundais.

You rate mileage as first priority. If you drive more than 2000kms. a month, go in for a diesel Hyundai Verna(Great mileage, terrific performance, and good reliability and service backup.). If handling is very very important and has to be perfect for you, go in for diesel Fiesta. Handles better than the Hyundai but is slower.

The Ford Fiesta is a great car, in my personal opinion looks a bit bland. But definetly consider the Ford Fiesta petrol over the Hyundau petrol. It is great to drive.

All the best. Enjoy. All the abovementioned cars are great cars in their own right.

How do you compare a car to animal cell?

I really need help! i am stuck i need to compare a car to animal cell, and i need this: Mitochondrion, Nucleus, Ribosomes,Cell Membrain, Vacuole, Golgi Body,Lysosomes, Nucleolus E.R and plasma Membrane. plz help me!How do you compare a car to animal cell?
A cell and a car? That's interesting! I'll try to help............

The outside surface of the car could be the cell membrane, and I would say that the driver who controls the car is the nucleus. So the space inside the surface of the car, including the trunk and engine, but outside the driver, is the cytoplasm. The nuclear membrane would be the skin of the driver. The chromosomes store the knowledge the cell needs, so I would say that the driver's brain - which stores the driver's knowledge - is the analog of the chromosomes.

    Hope I helped............

Evo X and STI are main competitors. Audi S4 or RS4 is a luxury performance AWD sedan. The RS4 is a little faster. The S4 is about the same as the STI and Evo X.

Mazdaspeed 3 has a 2.3L Turbo engine with 265HP and handles very well and go's fast, but competes with Lancer Ralliart and Impreza WRX.

For 4 cylinders and in the same price range, there's no comparison to the Evo and WRX STi, Mazda6 with 6 cylinders not even come close to these two legendary rally bred cars. The Evo and STI are pretty much the same in every category. The 350Z, Skyline, Supra, Acura TL, and Infinity G35 are comparable to the Evo and the STi but these cars have bigger engines, 6 cylinders.

Are electric cars really better for the enivorment?

Electric cars get their energy from power stations anyway, however I know that normal car motors are very inefficient. How much more efficient are electric cars compared to a standard car.Are electric cars really better for the enivorment?
    Yes:

Think about it this way, the internal combustion engine takes its own power plant with it wherever it goes. Now look around you, are there any devices that you use that need to have their own on board power plant?

Also, the car must have a hard to reach, highly refined product to use as its fuel. Power plants can use coal, gas, diesel, nuclear material, or renewable sources of energy. These alternatives are far more abundant and easier to source (read:cheaper) for most countries.
Yes, That's true electric cars are better as compare to other as it produces less emission and are more fuel efficient. http://www.thegreenautos.com

Are electric cars really better for the enivorment?
We are moving to an age where shortly the internal combustion engine will become obsolete.

Cars of the future will be far better for the environment.

The days of rare metal batteries will end as silicone/polymer batteries will take over.It will mean that the entire car body will become the battery. Short charge times and the ability to be able to drive for distances of more than 500miles on a single charge.Clean nuclear power stations and wind/solar power will provide the electricity so for me that has to be much better than cars polluting the atmosphere and filling it with greenhouse gasses which we have with the internal combustion engine
I believe that the pollution from an electric car is just moved from say the city centres to the source of the power such as a power station. The power generation is also not very efficient as the heat from the oil or coal has then to be converted into steam, passed to a generator and converted into mechanical energy and thence the mechanical energy is converted into electricity. There are efficiency losses every step and there are further losses as the electricity is carried through cables to point of use. Add to all this the manufacturing cost and pollution caused in the process, of the batteries, you end up with a not very efficient system. Only nuclear energy would be more efficient but there are still losses. Are electric cars really better for the enivorment?
Better than some alternatives? Yes. Might they be not as good as some alternatives? This is also a possibility. It depends upon what you are comparing. An electric car can be greater than 6 times more efficient than an internal combustion vehicle.1 There may be times when it is better to walk or take a bicycle than to use an electric car.

Electric cars are not just battery electric vehicles. They could have power transmitted to them as subways do.2 They could make their own power on the vehicle like hybrids, a solar or fuel cell vehicle or even a vehicle with an atomic battery.3 And the power that they use may come from the sun, geothermal or other source of electricity that is not originally a fossil fuel.

In this question, I did a quick back of the envelope style calculation and determined that using the US power grid an electric car may result in 1/3 the CO2 emissions as an ICE vehicle.4
The answer to your question is YES with reservations... There are many ways of generating the electricity needed for an electric car, some of which are environmentally friendly (wave and wind power for instance, even a (gulp) NUCLEAR power station properly maintained)
It depends on who you ask!

In addition to the source of the electricity (coal, gas, nuclear, etc), the production of fuel cells (batteries) produces very high levels of pollution.

So the answer to your question is yes, but in the long run.
When you consider the entire environmental impact - No

The environmental impact of the batteries(and it's chemicals) are the issue...
No but the Tesla is really cool and is worth buying is spite of the environmental claims.
    Yes

Contact any agent or independent broker - they will be able to run the premiums on different cars for you - or you can do it one by one online at any insurance company's website. Either or is fine - IT IS FREE TO GET INSURANCE QUOTES! The safer the car is the cheaper it is to insure. EG. Sports car Vs. Sedan - sedan will be cheaper to insure. • What is the cost of CNG in Ahmedabad and what average does it give on cars as compared to petrol?

I am planning to buy a car and immediately get it converted into a CNG engine. I have heard it is cheaper to run on than petrol. I am not sure if it is a good idea or not? If it is, how much does it cost in mileage while comparing CNG with petrol, and if it is good enough, what are the other benefits? What is the cost of CNG in Ahmedabad and what average does it give on cars as compared to petrol?
Yes, Always check local gas stations, as well as gas stations anywhere you occasionally travel to.

It'd suck to buy a CNG car, only to have the nearest station be 50 kilometers away. What is the cost of CNG in Ahmedabad and what average does it give on cars as compared to petrol?
I don't have a precise idea of the savings, but CNG is about half the cost of gas.

    There are additional benefits -

    - because CNG doesn't form the acids the way gas does, your oil won't dirty up as quickly as it would with gas

    - your engine will last longer and likely require fewer tuneups because CNG burns cleaner.

    - your exhaust system will last longer. What is the cost of CNG in Ahmedabad and what average does it give on cars as compared to petrol?
I can't do a lot for you on this subject but I do want you to check something carefully before you go this route.

My wife works for Fleet Administration for the State of California in the USA. She monitors many alternatively fueled vehicles and has very few positive comments on CNG cars. Where we are CNG fueling stations are scarce and she has told me the range of a CNG vehicle is very limited. So I strongly suggest you investigate fuel availability and not just cost. I also suggest you make an effort to find out how far your new vehicle will be able to travel on one full refueling and weigh that range against your intended usage. Based on her input and my requirements I wouldn't even consider a CNG vehicle for my personal use.

Good luck on your new car, regardless of your choice I'm sure you will do well.

Compare these cars, this is a challenge:?

In my search to find cars that will accomodate my small size and need for mediocre to great gas mileage, I've found these contendors: All are within my budget, responsive, fun to drive, and a good balance of small and sporty. That just makes deciding which one should be my first car, all the more tricky. Maybe you can help me out:

    Scion xD

    Scion tC

    Suzuki Sx4 Crossover

    Dodge Caliber

    Mini Cooper Clubman

The all new 2009 Chevy Avoe5

    Smart Fortwo

Mitsubishi Eclipse (i'm iffy about this one)

    Mazda3

    Mazda rx-8

    2008 Honda Accord Coupe

    2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

    Smart Fortwo

Which would you reccomend of these?

    Thanks!

Compare these cars, this is a challenge:?
well, let's see what we can do to help. based on your criteria of sporty, we are going to eliminate the smart fortwo (slowest car sold in the US) the Chevy Aveo, the Suzuki SX4 (great starter AWD car, but slow) and the dodge caliber (motor trend says they handle like a dodge ram, which is below average for a pick up and atrocious for a small car)

based on teh criterfira of okay to good gas mileage we'll further eliminate the rx-8 b/c the rotary engine, while small, is excessively thirsty.

we are down to the scions, hte mitsu's (i'd leave out the eclipse too) the mazda 3, the accord and the mini. of these listed, the mini will handle tied for best (with the 3) but school the others in gas mileage and 'cuteness'. the scion xD is the only one to have if you live an active lifestyle (or the mazda 3 5 door) as they will haul more than any two of the other cars combined. same goes if you have many friends you want to haul around... but the xD gets average, at best, fuel economy.

as an everyday hauler, my top 2 choices would be the mazda 3i (people hauler very good gas mileage (top 10 based on price sold in the US) and the mini cooper. it's just really cool and will get exceptional gas mileage.
    my top ones are:

Scion tC - it's a toyota which means it will be reliable

Mini Cooper - cool little cars with ridiculous gas mileage

Mazda3 - proven to be reliable and fun cars

    Honda Accord - It's a Honda...Compare these cars, this is a challenge:?
2008 Honda Accord Coupe. Dependeble and will hold a good resale value
Only one stands out for me, the RX-8. Seriously fast and fun to drive along with historically good resale value not to mention they look hot. The Eclipse would be my second choice BTW.Compare these cars, this is a challenge:?
I'd go with the Mazda3. I have a Mazda6 and completely love it. The interior is awesome, it is fun to drive, and it is very reliable.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!
mini cooper clubman ftw (great on gas)
Narrow your choices down to the Honda, Mazdas, %26amp; Scion/Toyota for reliability and resale value. All have decent gas mileage. Check out the ratings on consumerreports.org - even if you have to pay 20 bucks or whatever it is for access to the site, it's money well spent when comparing vehicles.
The Accord coupe is by far the best car on your list.

In terms of quality and durabilityPlease compare these cars for me if possible?
Well these are my opinions. I use to work at a Auto Auction as a detailer for interior so i know alot about the interior of different kinds of cars.

Hyundai- I think they are cheaply made

Kia- Very cheap they are like a pinto last resort

Honda- any honda is a very good car in fact i use to have a 84 civic that had 312,000 miles and still going

Suzuki- They are good cars and they also last a long time although i really dont care to much for the interior

Grand Vitara- They are so so but it would not be my first choice

Mitsubishi- From cleaning them and my experience with them they are not very reliable after you have had them for a while. Mitsubishi should have stuck with making TVs

My choice would be between the Honda and the Suzuki they are the most dependable cars on your list.

Oh I almost forgot the toyota they are great all around my next vehicle is going to be a Toyota Tacoma. Happy shopping

How much more complex are hybrid cars, comparing to conventional cars?

Can you get hybrid cars with automatic transmission or stick shift? Do hybrid cars require more maintenance? How much more complex are hybrid cars, comparing to conventional cars?
255 volt three phase motors for A/C compressor and propulsion. 38 Nickel Medal Hydrate batterys voltage inverter regular 12 volt battery for starting the gas engine regeneratorive and electro braking because the engine is not running all the time electronic powersteering too. Almost all hybrids I know of are automatic transmission.

Ok if maintence was necessary you should see the rubber gloves and leather gloves rubber apron and saftey equiptment needed to disable the high voltage to work on the car. And realising the gasoline motor may start at anytime to recharge the batterys. Actually maintainence should be about the same and even longer oil changes. But if a problem happens only Hybrid mechanics with proper equiptment can service them. Lethal voltages that can kill. Gas motor that can start up unless disabled oil change could be tricky for Gippy Lube and Tune.

Just imagine a 1960's mechanic landing back on earth. The gasoline engine mechanic seeing a hybrid in the shop for the first time. Complexity two propulsion systems electronic stuff and no sound running on batterys. How much more complex are hybrid cars, comparing to conventional cars?
I'm not aware of any hybrids which are manual transmission. Every one I've looked at is an automatic.

Hybrids actually require less maintenance than pure gasoline cars. For starters, the electric motor has fewer moving parts and the internal combustion engine is used less. The regenerative braking system saves the brake pads so they rarely if ever need to be replaced. The oil only needs to be changed every 5,000 miles. How much more complex are hybrid cars, comparing to conventional cars?
From a user stand point, they aren't much different to drive. They are even quieter in some because in some of the hybrid vehicles they don't turn on the gasoline engine until you get up to speed. So for the driver, it doesn't really make a huge difference.

From a mechanic's stand point, they are quite different. Depending on the hybrid, the technologies are different. The vehicles that run off Toyota's technology doesn't even really use a standard gasoline engine (the standard engine uses the Otto cycle), but the hybrids using a scavanging Atkin's cycle engine.

They don't typically require more maintenance, but they do require a specialist to work on them. Some components can have extremely high voltagee running through them, so you need to know what you're doing.

  • How does the zx2 escort compare to other 4 cylinder cars in its class???

Not sure which cars you mean. The ZX2 is a good but not great car. It has the "bigger" engine, but not really powerful or economical. The oval radio hole means you have to be more creative to upgrade the audio system. Styling is a personal choice, I used to like the tail lights

How much better are the transmissions in cop cars compared to the civilian versions?

Are they set to shift at different RPMs or are they just tougher or what? Are they set up to accelerate faster? I would like to know.

It would be cool if they were manual but whatever... How much better are the transmissions in cop cars compared to the civilian versions?
same basic tranny, just has a shift kit put in it to change the shift pattern
One difference is that cop cars don't have governors.

    Civilian cars do.

These are places in cars to stop the engine from going over a certain speed. Many people remove them, but the general public doesn't know about them, so that helps the cops during a car chase. How much better are the transmissions in cop cars compared to the civilian versions?
Cop car's are specially built for the police force, they have Turbo and Supercharger's built in for speed, the entire engine is built better than a regular car.
They are the same trans, they just beef up the motor, and change the torque converter, which will change when the car shifts, not to mention the trans in the police interceptors (crown vic's) are pretty durable as it is

How much better are the transmissions in cop cars compared to the civilian versions?
most police cars are just the same you would buy at the dealer.

some police cars are called "interceptors". these are high

performance vehicles and are usually equipped with more heavy

duty motors and transmissions and suspensions.
The police interceptor package equips a vehicle with trans coolers in addition to the shifting programming as mentioned.

Why cars made in 1967 has more value compare to other year model?

Assuming you are talking about classic American cars.

1967 was a good year. Most of the American manufacturers were building great cars in that time frame and 1967 was a peak year for style performance and quality. Why cars made in 1967 has more value compare to other year model?

In my opinion, all are fine cars. I really believe that you are worrying needlessly because the reliability of cars today is uniformly so high that "reliability" is no longer a factor to consider. (Other than Ford, that is--they will NEVER get their act together and haven't had it together since the flat-head V-8 of 1948.)

I'd study the local dealerships as a prime consideration. Ask the BBB for customer complaints, the local judge's office for lawsuits against any, etc.

OK--somehhing here--Mitsubishi has the reputation of being the solid best of the Jap cars. Why? Because of the Chryslter-Mercedes presence in its engineering department.

Best--Please compare these cars for me if possible?
Well let's see... Kia's are ok, most are very small and not very comfortable, my sister in law has one. Mitsubishi's I hear about needing to be fixed all the time, Toyota's are random, either good or bad... Honda's are probably your best bet. A honda is always nice. Me and my husband own a 2004 Suzuki Verona however and love it. I haven't had to do any major maintenance at all, and it's very roomy and luxurious, they are a plus in my book and the warranty is amazing, and my friend owns a Hyundai Sonata, basically the same as the Suzuki, not any major repairs, but the inside is kind of simple.

I would love HONDA CR-V because of its classy looks and steradiness... Go for it..
I dont think only one person can do it. You better check Yahoo Autos!
This is wierd, I just brought a copy of Test Drive Magazine (a British car magazine) today and those very same cars were compared in a shootout (except the Pajero Pinin, they compared a Nissan X-trail instead). The winner as in the past was the Honda CR-V, based on its refinement, performance, build quality and economy. The other cars were in this order: RAV4, Santa Fe, X-Trail (no Pajero Pinin, but that is a MUCH smaller car and shouldnt be cmpared to these), Grand Vitara and Sportage. I think overall Honda cars have the best reliabilty and build quality, according to JD Power scores.
    i need ur

    mail
Get the CR-V. Definitely the best quality, most durable. I have a friend who owns one and it's great. I have rented or been in most of the others and I think the CR-V is the best, by far.
My vote is Honda CR-V, but Nissan (not listed as choice) makes very dependable/ gas mileage vehicles as well. My '82 Honda civic did me good for 330 hundred thousand miles, I was impressed

  • How does and electric car compare in operating costs to an efficient gas, or hybrid car?

Just consider electricity and amortized battery costs versus gasoline and basic repair.

Also, will the comparison remain valid for years to come? Or will the relative cost of electricity and gasoline (and taxes) change significantly to alter cost benefit? How does and electric car compare in operating costs to an efficient gas, or hybrid car?
There is no one "Electric car" We can take the Nissan leaf as the first Truly production electric car and suggest that others in the future will tend to match or better this performance. In the short term most electric vehicles will be slightly more expensive when they come to marked in the next 2 years.

The Nissan leaf is priced at about 32,000. With rebates this comes to about 25,000 in the US and in some states with additional incentives like California this comes to about $20,000. The battery costs around $9000. So in California the base vehicle is costing you about $11,000. Over the course of the warranty period the vehicle is likely to deprecate about 50% of its value compared to a hybrid or petrol vehicle with will lose closer to 75% of its value.

The battery is under warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles. If we amortize the cost of the battery over the warranty period this comes to $.09 per mile. At the national average for electricity of approximately $ .12 per KW hr electricity for the vehicle will cost approximately $ .04 per mile. This total of the battery and electricity is approximately $ .13 per mile which is about equal to the operating costs of a petrol vehicle that gets 22 miles to the gallon.

At the end of the warranty period it is likely you can replace the battery for double the performance at half the cost.

Hybrid and gas vehicles are likely to cost more, up to four times as much and mileage will vary. Average annual repair costs for petrol vehicles is difficult to find with one source suggesting $2265 per year.
Let's say it costs $4,000 for a replacement battery at say 100,000, and it costs $0.025 per mile for the electricity. That would make your total cost for 100,000 miles $6,500.

Now assuming gasoline cost $5.00 per gallon and the car say 30 mpg city, yes there are cars out there that will get that and have the same seating as a electric car. That means you'd use 3,334 gallons of gasoline at a cost $16,670 at $5,00 or $13,336 at $4.00 per gallon.

That means you will be $6,836 to $10,170 ahead but here's the rub, most electric cars cost much more that a gas powered models, For example a Toyota Prius cost about 22,800 base price a toyota corolla costs about 15,600 that gives you a diffrence of $7,200 which mean until gasoline goes over $4,00 you lose money on an car.

Now don't forget gasoline includes road tax, right now electric cars are getting a pass but at some point they will be charged a tax per mile and that will mean gas will have to cost even more to run an electric are.How does and electric car compare in operating costs to an efficient gas, or hybrid car?
"Nissan estimates that the Leaf's 5 year operating cost will be US$1,800 versus US$6,000 for a gasoline car." - wikipedia

I'd guess the comparison will change substantially. Battery costs may come down, electricity and gas prices will rise.
i have en electric car. fuel costs about 2.5 cents per mile to run. versus about 5 times that for gasoline. in 2.5 years(8300 miles) it has needed no repairs or maintenance. only battery charging. i baby the batts, and they show no signs of giving up anytime soon, despite the fact that i have saved the value of an entire string already.

i drive past gas stations at 3.25 per gallon and laugh. How does and electric car compare in operating costs to an efficient gas, or hybrid car?
At THIS time the cost/benefit ratio is in favor of gas over either of the others.

I am NOT a fortune teller, so I can't answer the other part.

Are crash safety ratings compared to similar cars or in general?

I'm lookin at buyin a sebring convertible but my dad is all worried about it bein dangerous. I looked at the safety ratings, they're good and I told him. He says those ratings are compared to other convertibles, not all cars in general. Does anyone know if that's true? Are crash safety ratings compared to similar cars or in general?
Each year, NHTSA crash tests selected vehicles at 35 mph by running them into a frontal barrier.

NHTSA then issues star ratings for all models tested.

The federal agency provides separate frontal crash-test ratings for the driver and front passenger.

Side-impact tests are also conducted, and separate scores are given for the front and rear occupants.

All vehicles sold in the United States are required to pass a 30-mph frontal crash test, but only some models are tested at the higher speed. Are crash safety ratings compared to similar cars or in general?
We are being sold a bill of gunk every day by the manufacturers referring to their vehicles as "safe."..The only time a vehicle might be considered 'safe' is when the engine is turned off and nobody is inside the vehicle.

Seat belts, airbags, crumple zones and all the rest of the so-called 'safety' features on any vehicle are protection devices designed to minimize injury and reduce the possibility of death - under very certain conditions...Like laboratory conditions at speeds under 40 mph between a moving mock-up (vehicle) and a non-moving object (simulated opposing vehicle)...None of these items will keep you from being involved in a collision nor will they prevent damage to your vehicle under these circumstances.

All motor vehicles designed for public roads are DANGEROUS...They will kill, maim, injure and ruin your life if each of us does not operate them correctly each and every time out of the box...The 'safe' part of every vehicle is you and me - the drivers...If I'm not thinking safety, then my vehicle is not being operated safely.

This is a 'hot button' topic for me...Over 30,000 dead a year just with passenger vehicles and over 2 million injuries.

And virtually nothing is being done about it!!!Are crash safety ratings compared to similar cars or in general?
I want to say he is right you always hear the best safety rating in its class. But what about another car in another class so i believe they are compared to the cars in their class also know as competition so i think dad may be right here. Hope this helps

How are cars in teh early 60s and beyond different to cars today.?

    1. How was the interior size in the same classification different today cars compared to cars in the 60s .

    2. My honda civic gets 29-42 at most. How is this different to the 60s cars in the same class compact class. How are cars in teh early 60s and beyond different to cars today.?
One thing you have to remember that gas back then was like 49 cents a gallon...The cars then were big just because fuel was cheap...Then you needed power and performance for these cars so the engines were also big...They had comfort and style in the 60.s...Some car companys had to make cars so they can run them in the ever growing nascar circuit...Both ford and chrysler spent millions on cars that you and I could buy at the dealer...yes a nascar ready to run from the dealer!!!This is were the saying buy it on friday race it on sunday and sell it on monday came from...Just a few cars that come to mind are ford thunderbolt, ford torino talladega and the infamous super bird...All of these were comfy high horsepower monsters that you got direct from the dealer...How are cars in teh early 60s and beyond different to cars today.?
I could put your civic in the trunk of my 56 olds super 88 and still have room for camping gear for the 6 people in it. the people in the back could stretch out there legs with the front seat all the way back. Most of us would avoid any small car at any cost. That monster weighed in at close to 4500 lbs and would almost hit highway speeds without touching the gas pedal. Mileage was around 22-25 in town and over 35 on the highway, and the best part was that if I ran over a civic it felt like a speed bump. 4 people could sit on the hood and not leave a dent. If you hit a hydro pole, the pole always lost and you may have a small dent in the metal bumper.Even my 64 Corvair had more room than most current intermediate cars nowadays and averaged 35 mpg from a 6 cylinder turbo . And still had an all metal exterior . Non of this plastic rice burner crap. How are cars in teh early 60s and beyond different to cars today.?
    Older cars = big

    Newer cars = small

When you compare the size of the motor %26amp; weight of the car to todays cars the older cars still did pretty good.

The newer cars are safer as they absorb the wreck not like the older cars that only gets a small dent but the driver gets beat up.

I still like the old cars! Give me my 70 Mach 1 anytime!
performance was top notch compared to whats coming out today everybody is throwing money after.

How does the family car compare to aircraft and shipping in pollution stakes?

I want to do a paper on the real global economy. What are the polution costs to the planet of buying a car,for example a Kia, to say one made in UK, if there is such a thing. Do we really need to import strawberries just because they are out of season here. The people raking in the money seem to think as they won't be around when the planet dies, "What the hell".How does the family car compare to aircraft and shipping in pollution stakes?
When buying a new car it makes no difference wether it's a Kia or a Ford or whatever ie. where in the world it's made. This is because all new vehicles, be it cars , trucks, tractors, buses, motorbikes- whatever, must meet the current Euro Emission Regulations. The only differences in the emissions relate to the engine size ie bigger engines are allowed a higher emission, but they must still stay within the preset regs. Re. strawberries being flown in, the people raking in the money are only doing so due to consumer demand. It's our fault for buying and expecting stuff to be available all year round, you will never be able to stop everybody buying stuff which has been flown in. Many people are too selfish and dont care.

How does driving a diesel car compare to driving a petrol car?

I'm not a complete beginner to driving, but the only experience i have is in my dads car which is a 2.0 diesel. Im just wondering if it is easier to stall a petrol, etc.

Just wondering :) I'm starting my driving lessons tomorrow, and i'll be driving a nissan note. (i think)How does driving a diesel car compare to driving a petrol car?
It's about the same these days. Technology has caught up and diesel motors perform more like a gas engine these days. In the old days, a diesel did not accelerate as fast as a gas engine. The other difference is that when you let off the foot feed of a gas engine, the engine acts as a brake to slow down the car somewhat. A diesel motor doesn't do that. That's why big trucks have Jake brakes.
It's actually just as easy to stall a modern high pressure turbo Diseasel as it is a petrol engine nowadays, they no longer have that huge wodge of torque at idle speed that they used to.

You'll get used to it, but compared to a good petrol engine they're awful. (Go on Diesel fanboys, let's have all the thumbs-down.....)

I hate Diseasels in cars. How does driving a diesel car compare to driving a petrol car?
You will have much more torque at low rpm, but you wont be able to rev up as easy or high as with a petrol engine.

And yes, its easier to stall a petrol because less torque at low-end
as some one else has said there is no diferece these days if you dont have enough revs on any car van lorry ya will stallHow does driving a diesel car compare to driving a petrol car?
In a diseasal you change gear at lower revs and when you fill up and the garage has run out of plastic disposable gloves it makes your hands smell
You'll get the hang of it with either

I would like to buy a Golf but would like to know about other cars that are similar, small, hatchback style cars. Also, what would you say about the reliability of the other cars compared to the Golf? Are there any cars are similar in appearance to the Volkswagen Golf?
Acura RSX; Audi A3; Chevrolet Aveo 5-door, Optra 5-door and Malibu Maxx 5-door; Ford Focus ZX3 and ZX5; Hyundai Elantra 5-door; Kia Rio5 and Spectra5; Mazda's Mazda3 and Mazda6 Sportwagon; Mercedes-Benz C230, Mini Cooper; Pontiac Wave; Subaru Impreza; Suzuki Swift+; Toyota Prius and Yaris Hatchback (3-door and 5-door); and Volkswagen's New Beetle and GTI.

also i know honda has at least 1 newer model that is not on that list.

Well there is the list. I would suggest checking out the Mazda3. I own a mazda as well as 4 of my co-workers. I don't think we have had a single MIL light throughout all of our warranties. As a matter of fact in four years(54k miles) mine has needed a battery and regular oil changes and that is it.Are there any cars are similar in appearance to the Volkswagen Golf?
The Golf is pretty unique-looking but there are some other compact hatches out there. Examples would be the Mazda3, Subaru Impreza, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, Audi A3 (similar to the Golf), Suzuki SX4, Mini Cooper, Volvo C30, and the garbage Dodge Caliber and Chevrolet Aveo.

I own a 2008 Rabbit (same as a Golf, just a different name) and I have no complaints within my first year of driving it. The 2.5 liter engine is supposed to be pretty reliable. It's a fun car to drive, too, if you get the manual transmission. It also handles extremely well, has lots of head room (I'm 6 feet tall and fit in it with room to spare), and is quite safe for a little car. I average about 26 MPG driving mostly in town and I don't exactly drive like a little old lady either, which is pretty good for how much power the car has.Are there any cars are similar in appearance to the Volkswagen Golf?
Ford Pinto, AMC Gremlin- they made one of those with a big block and four speed, my god father had one with 500 miles on it in his garage, ford fiesta, Dodge Omni, sorry, just messin, golfs can look pretty bad ***
If you maintain it and drive them right - all cars will last.

Please compare these two cars for me. '96 Infinity I30 or '99 Honda Accord EX.?

At the moment I am tied btwn both cars. I am clueless as to which is best for me and my lifestyle. Both needs some fixing but the Infinity needs more fixing than the Honda. The Infinity had been parked for 4 yrs. needs 4 tires, brakes, shocks, new battery. Since the battery is dead I am unable to test drive this car. The Honda is currently active and needs brake and front shocks. Both cars are running for the same price. I need help!!Please compare these two cars for me. '96 Infinity I30 or '99 Honda Accord EX.?
Honda will get better mileage and I think looks better.plus it is super customizable at an affordable price compared to the Infinity. Also you can turn the Honda into a tuner easily and I don't know what your style is but these cars have style, economy, and with a bit of love can be luxury cars also. Honestly its up to you in the end but keep in mind if the Infinity has a major breakdown it is significantly more expensive to fix.

What is the difference between Mercedes cars sold in the USA compared to Europe?

I have been searching tops brands (mercedes, BMW etc..) on american web sites, and were wondering if anybody knows the difference (if any) between the cars sold in the USA compared to similar cars sold in Europe. Are the emissions higher, fuel differences etc. I am refering to simliar cars with simliar engines, i.e. Mercedes ML 320 CDI SUV. The reason I am wondering is primarily the big price difference. What is the difference between Mercedes cars sold in the USA compared to Europe?
This question could take a lot of explaining...so I'm going to limit my answer to the example of the ML 320 CDI.

MOST Mercedes Vehicles that we see in the States are the same OR very similar to the European versions. However, the Europeans have several different engines that we in the States do not see. The perfect example is the 220 CDI motor. Why? There are plenty of answers to that. Basically the answer is overhead and production costs.

Back to the ML and the price difference. Right now, it is cheaper to buy a Mercedes Benz in the US than almost anywhere else in the world because of the weak dollar. For that reason, many Europeans are trying to purchase MBs here for export to Europe. They can generally make profits of up to $30,000!!! Mercedes Benz, as well as most European governments, does not allow this practice as it damages local economies.

The ML range is also cheaper in the States because they are assembled here (in Alabama in fact). This lowers shipping costs for American consumers. BUT, because these vehicles have to be shipped back overseas, and then usually across half of the continent, the price rises substantially. Not to mention that there are frequently taxes applied to the ML abroad because of it's size.

Hope that makes sense. Feel free to email me for further clarification. What is the difference between Mercedes cars sold in the USA compared to Europe?
The Steering wheel is on the other sideWhat is the difference between Mercedes cars sold in the USA compared to Europe?
I own a European version Mercedes and in some ways I like it better. It is a 1978 450 SLC 5.0 Prettier bumpers and headlights. Lightweight alloy hood and trunk lid. NO smog equipment and it is geared higher. Also better gas mileage. Sometimes parts are a pain, but I have my sources. Also the motor I have in this car was not brought into the States until 1984 in the SEC and SEL. Sadly it was choked down too much. My car is 240 horsepower, the American version was 184 horsepower. BIG difference. Today there are more similiarities on the models when it comes to emissions and safety. There are more engine choices offered in the E and C classes in Europe. 4 cylinder gasoline, smaller 6 cylinders and an array of diesel motors I would love to see over here. Also interior choices will vary. More stripped down models with plastic hubcaps and cloth interior. Plus more manual transmissions. I would love to see more models with less bells and whistles come to our shores. A C class diesel that was stripped down would be great provided if diesel fuel will get straightened out on price. Also the prices differences could be a result of our dollar being weak unfortunately.
The North American versions differ slightly to comply with our differing emission, lighting, and bumper laws.

Mercedes is also more known as a luxury marquee here as well so North America usually receives the fancier models with more standard equipment compared to what is on the European base models.

How have safety features in cars improved?

I need to explain how they reduce the risk of injury,

and compare a modern car with a very early car.

Use ideas about speed, forces and energy.

This is for a research paper about safety in carsHow have safety features in cars improved?
    Seat belts..........

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt

    Airbags............

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbags
One, don't confuse 'safety' with 'protection' features. The only time any motor vehicle is 'safe' is when it is unoccupied and the engine is turned off - and that's about 95 pct of the time.

Two, the only safety component in any vehicle is the driver - the computer, the decision-maker, the controller who decides the speed, direction and maneuvers the vehicle is to make. If the vehicle loses traction or has too much speed, then it can become uncontrollable and all occupants are excess ballast and thus just along for the ride.

A 3000 lb vehicle traveling at 55 mph has 303,371 ft/lbs of kinetic energy. A 150 lb human inside this same vehicle has 15,169 ft/lbs of kinetic energy. At this speed, the vehicle is moving at 80.6 ft/second. If the driver has a reaction time of 0.25 seconds, the vehicle will have traveled 20.15 ft just in that quarter of a second. Not much time to switch pedals or decide what gear to use.

All the best. How have safety features in cars improved?
Broad use of safety glass, now mandatory.

    Seat Belts mandated in 1964

    Later, shoulder belts were mandated.

Side Marker Lights mandated in 1968 for visibility.

    Elimination of metal dashboards.

Energy absorbing bumpers mandated in 1973.

    Anti-lock breaks.

    Air-Bags mandated.

    Re-inforced roof structures.

    Computerized skid control.

Use of engineered "crush zones" front and rear for impact protection.

    Improved lighting systems.
Braking has improved significantly, Body shells are now much stronger even though the cars are lighter. ABS and other technological innovations have helped to make cars much safer in braking situations and in cornering. Air bags and much stronger passenger compartments have helped to reduce the damage to occupants in the event of an accident. Suspensions are now more effective in keeping cars stable braking and cornering. How have safety features in cars improved?
no long answer here ...but the best thing that has been designed into car over the years is the crumple zone.it soaks up the energy of the crash thus saving the driver/passengers from the Force of the impact.

    EDIT...

links bellow are from google, lots of good info here....im suprised you have getten lots more answers on a subject like this.

i suppose another great step in the safety lader[if not the best] has been electronics...

now im not talking inerta fuel pump cut offs but the ECU computer control units...sensing a impact they can deploy airbags, tighten seatbelts[exsplosive device],open doors, full electronic battery isolation...

and now with ANPR [automatic number plate recognition] there now building cas that read road signes and can even slow the car down to the correct speed...all this and more wouldnt have here if it wasnt for the computer chip/electronics...

i mean thodays phone has more computing power than the first space shuttle...

    whats to come next?...
airbags and seatbelts are now standard in most cars , plus specially designed chassis and putting wheels as close to the front and rear absorb impact

Compare the Diesel engine and petrol engine cars and how beneficial?

The Diesel cars offer better Mileage, is cheaper than petrol and thus the overall running cost is lesser. But, these engines produces vibrations, noise while driving and the maintainence cost is much higher which makes it suitable for people who have a running of

more than 1000kms in month. Some of the popular Diesel cars in India are Tata Indica, Maruti Swift, Ford Figo etc.

The petrol engine leads to better acceleration and Performance as comparison to a Diesel engine. There is no problem of vibrations and noise even at high speeds. The maintenance is cheaper compared to diesel engine. But the mileage it offers is lower and the running cost is high. Thus. for people who have higher runnings find this mode of travel expensive. Some of the most popular petrol cars in India are Hyundai i10, Wagon R, Honda City etc.

Any engine has its own advantage

A , Advantages of petrol engines

    1. Low vibration

    2. Starts easily with a small battery. Can be started by handle crank also

    3. smaller in size

    4. Lower weight

    5. Easily repairable

    6, Cheaper in price

    7. Faster accelerator response

    B.Disdvantages of Diesel engines

    1. Heavier in weight

    2. Bigger battery is required for cranking, handle cranking is not possible

    3. Speed of the engine is restricted ( to 3000 max)

    4. More noisy

    5. High initial cost

    5. More vibration

    C. Disdvantages of petrol engines

    1. Cost of the fuel is high

    2. Due to higher rpm (more than 8000 rpm) failure of alternator and water pump are high

    D. Advantages of Diesel engines

    1. Fuel is cheaper

    2. Fuel is safer than petrolCompare the Diesel engine and petrol engine cars and how beneficial?
in usa gas engines are the dominate one/diesels are smelly/noisy and go 0-60 in a week/we are hot rodders over here and thats the way we choose it/

What is a good car to compare to William Wordsworth?

I'm doing a project on him and I need to compare him to a classic car. Any ideas? What is a good car to compare to William Wordsworth?
I don't know too much about him, as far as how to "compare" this great writer to a great car.

He was known as a "romantic", so maybe pick a car that is more a "dream car", something that is more "beautiful" than a "powerful" car. Idealism, over realism, if you know what I mean.

But I gave you a link below of pictures of classic cars, so you may pick one, and maybe print out one of those pictures for your homework, or report.

Because of the era that he lived in, I'd suggest a "horse and buggy" or a Model T, before you'd pick something more modern.

Why is Nissan GTR cheap compare to other cars?

ok Nissan GTR is a legend in nurburgring races. It can outrun Porches, ferraris etc. But how come they are cheap compared to Gallardo and Porsche GTR. I mean common $85,000??? compare to $500,000 to $1,000,000.

But the GTR can Beat those cars in races bigtime.... But how come they are cheap????

Why cant nissan make their product more expensive...

Im tired of old people with money thinkin their porsche and ferrari is the best around when they see the Nissan Badge... their like... ewwww cheap car. but in reality... GTR is FAST.

So how come they wont make their 3 sec car like $500,000 each?????Why is Nissan GTR cheap compare to other cars?
actually the carrera gt ($444k+ but probably more because no longer in production) and 997 gt2 ($191k+) has a faster nurburgring time, but the skyline gtr is faster then the porsche 997 gt3 ($106k+), bugatti veyron($1.4mil+), slr ($498k+), corvette c6 z06 ($72k+ and something closer to the price range), and any ferrari (didnt see an enzo or fxx times) or lambo...

as far as price, there have been 1270 carrera gts and about 300 veyrons produced and 3500 slrs are going to be built, while there is supposed to be around 1000 gtrs produced in a month (supposedly only 1500 will come stateside for the first year, and i bet most of the rest will go to japan and dubai considering a fifth of the veyrons are in dubai and they love the r34)

so it is faster than most cars (12th fastest lap time at nurburgring for production cars), but its cheaper because its not as exclusiveWhy is Nissan GTR cheap compare to other cars?
    Alright,

first of all - Neither the Gallardo or Porsche GTR are $500,000 OR $1,000.000.

2nd. - The Nissan GTR can't beat the Porsche GTR which costs about $180,000, especially the Carrera GT which is $500,000... or the Gallarado, which is running about $220,000 base.

So Nissan CAN make it more expensive, but who will buy them if they are slower then the cars that are higher end anyways.

...and no old people say "ewwwwww cheap car" to a Nissan Skyline hahahah... how old are ya bud? 12?

and the last part... LMAO - $500,000.... FOR A NISSAN SKYLINE? sigh, no comment. Why is Nissan GTR cheap compare to other cars?
Well, you're kind of right, but they are different.

Ferrari uses more expensive, much nicer materials and are more luxurious inside and out. The Nissan GT-R is just 100% bad@ss speed machine, It doesn't have the quality or feature of the Lambos or other Italian cars. But even with all that, you're right, they are still overpriced. A car doesn't have to be $0.5 mill to be fast.
a car doesnt have to be expensive to be THE BEST!

nissan has always been a great manufacturer. Lamborgini's are hand made.. duhh its gonna be expensive.. and look at the curves.. theres lots of body work put into it... its just the manufacturer.

""But the GTR can Beat those cars in races bigtime.... But how come they are cheap????""

    Yes R's are indeed fast.

The car that delivers 300Nm@1800RPM will have better acceleration.

They both have the same amount of torque, but the first engine delivers it at a lower RPM, meaning you will not have to accelerate for the same amount of time as the second engine to reach peak torque. In the 1800RPM engine you will get better pick-upCompare 2 cars; peaktorque of 1 is 300Nm@1800rpm %26amp; of 2 is 300Nm@3500rpm;which will have better pick up?
peaktorque of 300Nm@1800rpm , obviously has better pick up, but guzzles a lot of gas/petrol

How much diesel is released by buses compared to cars?

most gasoline !.How much diesel is released by buses compared to cars?
Hopefully, not diesel at all - that would indicate a leak in the fuel system.

As for unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust, particulates, CO2 etc. etc. than almost certainly the bus. But per passenger for a less-than-empty bus, the bus is greener.

I found a couple of figures for NOx - between 25-50 grams/mile for a diesel bus engine, and between 2-5 for a carHow much diesel is released by buses compared to cars?
A bus should not emit any diesel into the air. If they did there is a leak somewhere. Most cars run on gasoline and cannot emit diesel.

  • Will you help me compare cars?

I like these vehicles and I don't know which one I should get this October!

    Dodge Nitro

    Ford Escape

    Ford Edge

    Chevy Malibu

    Chevy Tahoe

GMC Terrain (brand new comes out this fall) Check the website!

Some background info. I'm getting married in September. We will probably start a family within the next two years atleast. So im not so sure about getting a car. My fiance is a big union man, so it has to be UAW made (made in America) car. I've checked insurance prices for all of these so that's not a huge deal.. I would just like to hear the comparison of other opinions. I've read several reviews online about each but i'll hear something good about that certain car, then something bad.. so idk. Thanks! Will you help me compare cars?
The Dodge Nitro isn't very good. It does nothing well and is pretty unreliable

The Ford Escape is not a bad compact SUV, the 2010 models have new/revamped engines, a new six speed automatic transmission, and improved reliability, it competes with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV.

The Ford Edge is a large crossover, it's performance is ordinary, but it looks stylish, and like the Ford Flex and Taurus X Wagon which it shares most of it's mechanical bits, has proved to reasonably reliable

The Chevy Malibu is by far the best mid-sized sedan GM as offered in years, still not quite as good an Accord, Altima, or Camry, but it's in the same league. An acquaintance of mine owns one, I've driven it several times and was impressed. The electric power steering in the 4 cylinder model is a little vague, but it's a very good car overall.

The Tahoe has been around awhile in its current state, fuel economy isn't great, but interior room and towing capacity is impressive.

The Terrain/Equinox looks good on paper. The projected fuel economy also looks good, Although the sheet metal and powertrains are new the vehicles are still made on the Theta platform, so the Terrain isn't an all-new design. GM seems to be doing what Ford did when it refreshed the Escape; new styling and new powertrains, but the underpinnings are the same as the outgoing model. With that said the old Equinox/Torrent/Vue was mediocre in most aspects, they were overpriced for what you got. If GM can keep the prices reasonable with the new model they should do okay. Will you help me compare cars?
Most of these cars have extremely low resale values or bad reviews.

The most fuel efficient is the Ford Escape.

The best for offroad or towing or camping or power is the Chevy Tahoe and it is the worlds most popular and best selling fullsize SUV.

The GMC Terrain will be a great car. I have rented GMC SUV's like the Envoy and Acadia and I loved them.

Do not get the Edge or Nitro. The Malibu is not a bad car, but I think it is ugly on the outside.

So I like the Terrain the most. Will you help me compare cars?
Get either the Escape, the Malibu, or the Tahoe/Terrain. Sorry you can't pick from any foreign cars, there are plenty of great models. You don't know what you're missing.
I don't believe any of those cars are made in the USA. If you truly want "made in America" you will have to settle for Honda or Toyota.

How good are electric cars compared to normal ones? How do they work exactly?

I'm 17, I'll get a car soon, I'm just wondering how electric cars stack up next to a regular car...pros and cons? How good are electric cars compared to normal ones? How do they work exactly?
Electric cars come in hybrid and pure-electric forms. Hybrids use gas engines in combination with electric motors, and may or may not have to be plugged in. Pure electric cars need to be plugged in, and the time it takes varies.

This explains the variation in charge times: http://www.plug-in.com/charge-times-how-鈥?/a>

If you only plan on driving your car short distances between recharges, then an electric car will save you money in the long-run. However, since you're young and might want to take road trips or travel to college, you might want to wait until prices for electric cars go down.

Performance-wise, they can be pretty equal if you are willing to pay the right price. The available options are less, however, and you should put a little time into researching a car before you buy it. I'm sure you already know to be safe once you get your car. Congrats and Good luck!

How good are electric cars compared to normal ones? How do they work exactly?
    Electric cars:

Electric cars and how they work can vary. most get very good gas mileage. One I know is a ECVT (Electric continously variable transmision) such as the toyota highlander hybrid. That is good but others, im not so sure about. Point: electric cars cost more but do save alot on gas

    Gas Cars:

about 3/4 of cars run by gasoline, are "guzzlers" which means they slurp down gas, someone I know owns a Mercedes S550, it has a big engine and a lot of horsepower, Point: gasoline cars are cheaper but use more fuel.
Battery and motor technologies are behind as of now. So range, performance, and reliability are not on par with a gas car. This is changing every day, so cross your fingers, you might be seeing fully operational electric vehicles in five years. Maybe ten.

and before someone calls the tesla to point and says im wrong, you should know that the motors and batteries do not last long, and it does take hours to recharge. Also heavy performance driving is extra hard on them. Top gear broke both of the ones that were sent them within minutes of each other. They are coming, how soon kinda depends on those who believe in them.

And if they can get fuel cell vehicles working we won't have to worry about batteries. How good are electric cars compared to normal ones? How do they work exactly?
    Electric car pros:

    - You will no longer need to pay your Gasoline Bill anymore.

    - Your will get a quieter engine

    - You can save the earth from the pollution

    - You can get about 100-200 miles per charge

    Cons:

    - You have to charge batteries

How do I compare cars these days? (hybrids, electric, etc)?

Right now I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra SER. It is a 2.5L, 160something horsepower, 4cyl, I'm only getting 20MPG. I want a newer car, better gass mileage, but I don't want to sacrifice power and speed. I know my car isn't very fast, but it's quick for being a 4cyl.

For example, I was looking at the 2012 Hyundai Accent. It is only a 1.5, but gets 40MPG! Which car is faster/has more power? How do I compare cars these days? (hybrids, electric, etc)?
Car options are increasing and petrochemical fuel prices are rising. In England they are already paying the equivalent of more than $8.00 per gallon. If you are going to be wise you should base your transportation choices not only on the type of driving you do but on what changes you can make and what you anticipate for the future. You should go through a consideration of your fuel choices and options. Do you think the costs of fuel will rise here? By how much before it stabilizes for a time again? So far this is they type of thinking we have not generally had either the option or need to consider.

Then there is the more usual consideration of they type of vehicle you need and the size. But here again you may wish to consider a less stable world than even 10 years ago.

You said your car is "quick" but are you thinking of the top speed or the acceleration? Electric vehicles tend to be very "quick" on acceleration, are cheaper to operate, can be cheaper to purchase but so far have limited range. [At present fuel prices the Nissan leaf is a mid sized car that is about equal to a $16,000 ($11,000 in California) vehicle that gets about 31 mpg.1]

The Jetta TDI is a more expensive vehicle ($23000) in a slightly smaller body. It runs diesel fuel and maintenance costs would have to be considered along with the fuel costs. It may give better mileage than the Leaf. It will be slower to start but have a longer range.

The Accent is a sub-compact vehicle that offers a high mpg and a base sticker price of around $12,000. With any cheaper vehicle you should be very careful about what options you must pay for and what might be included.

Best of luck with your decision. How do I compare cars these days? (hybrids, electric, etc)?
There are several articles out there that discuss hybrids and electric vehicles. I would check this one out: http://ow.ly/4EwzO. 1-800-Recycling.com also has a bunch of great information for greening your life. Also, the Environmental Protection Agency has a great source for checking the eco-friendliness of cars (http://ow.ly/4EwOY ). So, if you find two cars you like that have similar power, you can try comparing how environmentally friendly they are.How do I compare cars these days? (hybrids, electric, etc)?
If you want a good vehicle i would suggest a Volkswagen Jetta TDI (turbo diesel injection). Diesel is much better than gas since once the engine is started it runs on its own combustion so it uses very little fuel. With diesel you don't get a whole lot of hp but the true power of all vehicles is how much torque is produced. Diesels are low horsepower high torque.

A VW Jetta TDI can give you up to around 45mpg+. If you don't get on it hard you could see maybe an average of 50mpg.

What i have noticed with an engine is this with a V8 gasoline engine at 70mph you are at about 2100 rpm. At 2000prm you are decreasing your mileage. That's why they say to get good mileage drive at 60mph since on most engines your at around 1500rpm. But my vote is for a Jetta TDI. If you can drive a manual transmission right there you are increasing your mpg.

On a good day you could maybe see 55mpg in the Jetta TDI with a 5speed manual. Though with diesel prices pretty high you might not want this vehicle.
your sentra is going to have both more power and be faster. most of the time you have to sacrifice speed/power for gas mileage, unless you tune your car. your sentra has a bigger more powerful motor.

  • Can you please compare these Three Cars and tell me who would win for sure..?

first of all, no modifications to any of the car... bone stock.

    1. Mercedes E55 AMG (model 1999)

    2. Honda Accord 2008 (4 doors)

    3. Ford Mustang V6, 3.8Liter, 2003 model

Which one will win, and 2nd and 3rd if possible as well. Can you please compare these Three Cars and tell me who would win for sure..?
The Ford Mustang will definitely win and then it will be the Mercedes E55 AMG and last Honda Accord
mustang then the mercedes then the hondaCan you please compare these Three Cars and tell me who would win for sure..?
    the mustang

the new honda's are very quick and think that it would take down the merc

    but thats only me?
There is only one choice, and that's the Mustang. Every other car is made by a foreign company and should not even be allowed in my country. Can you please compare these Three Cars and tell me who would win for sure..?
First of all, because I am not American, I can answer this question without bias.

Forget the Honda - they are great cars but nowhere near the other 2.

If you mean win by outright speed, then it would be a close contest. The Mercedes has 349BHP - the Mustang has only 193. The Mustang would weigh less, but the huge amount of power of the E55 would counteract that. The E55 has a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, whereas the Mustang does it in over 6 seconds.

From then on, the Mercedes wins hands down in terms of interior quality and finish, and handling. Corner is not a word in the American dictionary, but it is in the Germans. So there..

You already have them in the right order. Those who said the Mustang would be first didn't take the time to read your question.
    In a race?

I need to know which engine in the Accord.

    1. Mercedes E55 AMG. The AMG has an engine bigger than the engines found in Lamborghini, Porsche and Ferrari. But it is not as fast as those supercars because it is big and heavy.

    2. Honda Accord V6.
