Please compare these cars for me? Outback or Impreza?

For a teenager, thinking about either. whats the better of the two and why?|||I've owned both, and currently have two Outback wagons (1997 w/142,000 miles; 2008 w/50,000 miles) that I bought new. The Impreza is smaller, but not that much, except the haulage space in back. Either will carry four people with plenty of room, or 5 if you're willing to squeeze in or include kids in the mix.

The Impreza gets a little bit better gas mileage, but it's not that big a deal. My wife, who drove the Impreza (2.2 litre engine) when we had that claimed it was even better in the snow than my Outback wagon (2.5 litre). These are both excellent cars. Neither the Outback nor the standard Impreza (now 2.5 litre, in U.S.) are racers, but their power is defininitely adequate. The WRX and STI versions of the Impreza are pocket rockets.

If you need or want the haulage space, get the Outback wagon. HERE'S the big difference: The significantly greater ground clearance makes either the Outback wagon (Legacy platform) or the Outback Sport (Impreza platform) much better in the back country. NOTE that neither of these has a low range to their transmissions, and so is not suitable for climbing rock fall like a Jeep. You can ford SMALL streams and handle badly rutted dirt roads with the Outbacks.|||The Outback is a fancy Legacy, so are you comparing the Legacy and Impreza, or Outback and Impreza?

Both are really good cars, but the Impreza is a fair bit smaller, and somewhat cheaper. If my teen was choosing between them, I'd go Legacy, as it is larger, and therefore safer.|||I think you would like the Impreza better. It really makes no difference because Subarus are GREAT cars.|||Impreza|||impreza or baja...
